This is the 3rd Principle from my most important article for you.A resource is something that gives you comfort, recovery and inner balance.
NOT a resource is something that gives you comfort, but has bad consequences.
Notice the difference:
1. Complete a work project to receive money & improve your professional skills.
2. Complete a work project to receive money
but to get burnout and health problems as a result.
1 – a resource.
2 – not a resource.
Drinking a cup of hot tea daily is a resource.
Drinking a bottle of wine daily is not a resource.
Resources are not something that they teach you in school: you need to explore them, try and practice. To use resources and recover, you need to make an effort — a paradox, but this principle is mastered instantly, since the benefit is immediate (made an effort — nurtured myself, recovered and solved a problem).
Found a resource — used it — got stronger ➝ action = benefit.
If your life is full of stress, then your psyche and physiology are in a state of constant mobilization and severe tension. You
especially need strength. Be conscious about your resources and actually
use them.
Types of resources1) the source:a.
External (using external sources to recover, like taking a walk, eating food, watch a tv show etc)
b.
Internal (your internal abilitiy to recover, like a personality trait, physical/emotional capacity etc)
Irene Lyon's program SBSM teaches you to explore your resources!
2) the quality:a.
Simple (a cup of tea, a warm blanket, an affirmation etc)
b.
Complex (writing your project's business plan, organizing a party with freinds, travelling abroad etc)
So, how to actually be strong and brave?
First, establish the flow of your power via resourcing. Once you are strong, you start being brave. The deeper the stress — complicated life circumstances, physical and psychological trauma, internal and interpersonal conflicts —
the better you need to know and be able to use your resources. Many people struggle with such a simple but crucial thing as resources.
